Vale Royal Crematorium praised in inspection for ‘excellent level of service'

Vale Royal Crematorium has been praised by an industry inspector for providing an “excellent level of service provision.”

Michael Day, an inspector for the Federation of Burial & Cremation Authorities (FBCA), concluded that he “did not feel it necessary to make any recommendations” following his visit to the site in May.

The Federation is the UK’s principal representative of burial and cremation authorities, providing a range of services to support its members care for over 400,000 funerals a year.

The FBCA’s Crematorium Compliance Scheme involves scrutinising six separate key areas of service delivery, through discussion and viewing of more than 80 points of interest and Mr Day scored the crematorium 100% in three of those areas.

Vale Royal Crematorium is part of Westerleigh Group, one of the UK’s largest independent owners and operators of crematoria and cemeteries, with 41 sites in England, Scotland, and Wales, and which is trusted by more families than any other provider to deliver funerals for their loved ones.

It is set within the heart of Cheshire, overlooking the river Dane, providing a natural place for families to hold a dignified service of their choice, while benefitting from the exceptional care and support provided by the site’s team.

Vale Royal Crematorium Manager Georgia Hanson said: “It was particularly pleasing to receive full marks in the Service and Staff category, because people are at the heart of everything we do.

“In order to provide the exceptional care and support that we have built our reputation on, we need to have the right people in place at the crematorium, and I am proud of the professionalism and dedication of my team here, who are all so passionate about what they do.
“Clearly the inspector has seen that too, and his assessment is a welcome endorsement of the care and commitment shown every day by the team here.

“Membership of the FBCA is entirely voluntary and not all crematorium operators choose to join. However, we take great pride in the consistently high standards we uphold across every aspect of our work and that’s why we welcome the opportunity for our facilities and practices to be independently assessed by industry experts.

“For the families of Northwich, Winsford and the wider Cheshire community, this can only mean peace of mind - the assurance that they can always expect an exceptional level of care and service from us.”

Mr Day found the crematorium “…to be operating in accordance with the three key areas of compliance: 1. The Cremation Regulations 2009, relating to statutory documentation; 2. The Defra Process Guidance notes 5/12, relating to cremation; and 3. The Code of Cremation Practice, relating to all aspects of the service.”
