Vale Royal Crematorium donates £1,500 to Cheshire hospice

A Cheshire hospice which provides valuable palliative care to local people has received a welcome £1,500 cash boost from Vale Royal Crematorium.

The care provided to seven out of every 12 patients at Halton Haven Hospice in Runcorn is paid for by community donations, so the cheque from the crematorium is a very welcome one.

Vale Royal Crematorium is part of Westerleigh Group, the UK’s largest independent owner and operator of crematoria and cemeteries, with 37 sites in England, Scotland and Wales, all set within beautifully-landscaped gardens of remembrance which provide pleasant, peaceful places for people to visit and reflect.

The money was raised through Vale Royal Crematorium’s metal recycling scheme.

With the consent of families, metals recovered during cremation are recycled and any money raised is used to support charities and other worthy causes in the communities surrounding every crematorium and cemetery which are part of Westerleigh Group.

Vale Royal Crematorium Site Manager Dave Haslam said: “We have not made a donation to Halton Haven Hospice before, but it’s in my home town and I have friends and family who have used its services.

“I’ve also spent some time recently working with Funeral Directors in the area and have become even more aware of the valuable care provided by the hospice.

“It is not part of the NHS, although it does get some funding from it, but most of its money comes from donations, fundraising events, a weekly lottery and legacies left in the wills of supporters.

“The hospice provides vital care, supporting patients physically, psychologically, and emotionally, enabling them to carry on living the lives they want to live for as long as possible.

“It’s an honour and a privilege to be able to provide some help to an organisation which makes such a positive difference to local families.”

Tina Gill, Community and Events Fundraiser at Halton Haven Hospice, said: “We were thrilled to hear Vale Royal Crematorium wanted to support the work of the hospice and give such a generous donation to Halton Haven.

“On behalf of all at the hospice we would like to thank Dave Haslam and his team for thinking of us. It is thanks to support like this, the hospice can continue to offer incredible end of life care to local people and their families at such a difficult time.”
